The very name of this exquisitely restored and noble 15th-century house evokes a sense of romance and adventure as profound as the Spanish Golden Age itself. Story has it there was once a knight called Juan de Armario. In 1485, when Ronda was laid to siege by the Moors, he was the first to enter the mine where they kept all their supplies and died in the venture. As a reward for his bravery, the King granted the knight’s sons five estates at the foot of the Sierra del Santiscal mountain range, where they built what would become the family residence, today called “Hacienda El Santiscal”. This beautiful fortified building has magnificent views thanks to its strategic location. You can now enjoy it for yourself. Our hotel is located in Arcos de la Frontera, a historical town and the "Pueblos Blancos" (White Towns), near the Grazalema Nature Reserve, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Arcos de la Frontera is one of the prettiest towns in Spain. This white town is perched on the top of a high rock, together with a medieval Arab castle that is testimony to the magnificent past of this romantic and legendary town which belonged to the Arab Qora court of Medina Sidonia. The Hacienda has seven double rooms, three Superior or Junior Suites and two Suites with a lounge and fireplace or private terrace. All the rooms have private remote-controlled air conditioning/heating and fully-equipped bathrooms with hair dryer and welcoming products. Since the hotel occupies a protected historical building (15th century), all the rooms are different. Some rooms have wooden beam ceilings, Arab brick or earthenware tile floors, paneled furniture, etc. although all are decorated in a cosy style that fits in with the style of the house, imbuing it with simplicity, elegance and character. Just off a street beside the main square of the old quarter of Arcos de la Frontera, stands La Casa Grande, a palace-house dated back from 1729 with magnificent views across the Arcos's cathedral. More than three hundred years have passed and this mansion still conserves the splendid blend of its rustic and aristocratic flair typical of Cadiz Mountains. Elena and Ferran are the enthusiastic young hosts of the "big house", as locals say. They both work as freelance journalist from this peaceful place now open to the guest after a carefully restoration. Rooms vary in size, are full of Arabic tiles on walls and floors, antiques, coloured walls, wood in the ceiling, terracotta floors and loaded with charm. The two suites, one with a full equipped kitchen, and one double are nicely styled with en-suite colourful bathrooms, air-conditioned, radio, television and telephone. The guest made its entrance into a white interior column patio where the warmth of the place can be touch.
