This family run, gastronomic, centenary hotel is located in the historic centre of Ezcaray in the upper part of the Oja Valley and opposite the imposing church. Echaurren Hotel was founded in 1898 when Pedro Echaurren refurbished his coach house and created a dining room to make the most of the culinary talents of his wife Andrea. This was the start of an impressive gastronomic and hotel tradition which has now reached the fifth generation of the family. Marisa and Félix, the fourth generation, achieved the highest recognition for the restaurant receiving many awards amongst others the National Gastronomy Prize for the Best Chef granted to Marisa in 1987. Now her sons, Francis Paniego and José Félix, have assumed the reins of the business and are reinventing it. In 2009 they embarked on an extensive refurbishment and guests will now find a décor and comfort inspired in the best of Nordic design. The walls combine light coloured wood, Toile de Jouy fabrics, glass and designer chairs in green and orange tones which with the fabulous fireplace create a welcoming, relaxed feel to the reception and gastrobar. The guest rooms are decorated along similar lines and the hotel it's no doubt becoming a flagship project in the La Rioja and Spain.
