Looking out over the terrace of the top floor rooms in Bajo el Cejo charming hotel, to the opposite side of the small ravine in which this hotel stands, and the drop to the pool, flour mill and spring beyond, you’ll ask yourself "What did the architect say when he saw this slope?" The reply would be "Nothing could be built here". But it could, and here we are living Rosa and Andrés dream come true in the Sierra Espuña Nature Reserve, a valuable natural spot in the region of Murcia. Cejos are blocks of limestone that jut out of ravines like lumps of cake and which have been frequently been used to protect farmhouses and whole neighbourhoods. Sheltering under one of these cejos are the hotel’s three adjoining houses each with its own living room, and housing a combined total of 13 bedrooms, 2 of which are located in the windmill, where the river rumbling along the ravine bed can be heard from the doorway. The traditional style and materials associated with the mountainous region of Murcia have been retained in the renovation, and tasteful contemporary elements have been added to a space dominated by the hum of insects and the song of copycat thrushes.
