The Hotel Gasthof Hirschen is situated in the heart of a picturesque valley in western Austria at the border line to Switzerland called Bregenzerwald. This mountain area offers green untouched nature and invites you to relax, breath fresh air and explore hiking, walking, running or biking. The charming village itself – Schwarzenberg – is classified as a historical precinet and is recommended as one of the most attractive villages in Austria. The closest city is Dornbirn, about 15 km away, Bregenz, at the shore of the lake of Constance, with its famous performances during the Bregenz festival right on the lake is close. The well known Arlberg skiing area is in about 45 minutes available by car. Closer skiing areas are Mellau-Damüls and Bödele – Hochälpele, from where you can ski right down to the hotel if there is enough snow. Constructed in 1757 in wooden baroque style the Gasthof Hirschen has been owned by the same family for 8 generations and has given hospitality to many visitors, celebrities (King Maximilian II. of Bavaria stayed here in 1855) and artists for more than 2 centuries. And although some renovations have been done, the spirit and character are still the same: Wood-paneled, rustic parlors, roaring fireplaces, a large salon, traditional dining areas bathed in soft candlelight and individual guest rooms with period furniture or Laura-Ashley inspired décor featuring all modern comfort create an ageless Alpine ambiance that is most welcoming. After a day on the various hiking paths, the slopes or a trip to the surroundings you can relax over a cup of coffee in the charming garden, beside the log-fire, at the bar or take a break at the sauna and steambath. The hotel offers you 33 individually furnished guest rooms with art, design and antiques. Besides there is a high class restaurant for fine dining (Falstaff ranking 89 points) that offers a nice variation of regional specialities accompanied by a good glass of wine out of Mr. Fetz´s large and special wine cellar. The wooden made “Wälderhaus”, a dependence located just behind the hotel offers another 15 comfortable and quiet rooms and appartements, a garage and special spaces for meetings and conferences. Also the nice garden in between is loved by our guests as relaxing area.
