One of the oldest Canterbury hotels, the Thanington Hotel is conveniently located, a short walk from the world famous Canterbury Cathedral and Canterbury city centre. Built in the late 1790s, the hotel has retained much of its original charm providing, for the discerning traveller, an oasis in bustling Canterbury. Guests can relax and unwind in one of the most historic hotels in Canterbury, while enjoying 21st century hotel facilities. Opening as a Canterbury hotel in the mid 1980s, the Thanington Hotel now consists of 15 en-suite rooms. The public facilities include secure private parking, heated indoor swimming pool (recently refurbished), secluded courtyard garden and private bar (with one of the largest selections of single malt whiskies of hotels in Canterbury and East Kent). All of the hotel rooms provide widescreeen or flat screen TV and free wireless connection. The accommodation consists of 5 superior rooms, including one Suite, and 10 standard rooms of family, twin or double configuration. Since being purchased in September 2012, the hotel is undergoing a tasteful transformation. Eleven of the rooms have already been refurbished. The charming enclosed garden, a riot of colour in the summer months, can be accessed from the hotel or from the indoor swimming pool, giving guests the opportunity to relax in a peaceful secluded oasis whether enjoying refreshment or watching the carp swimming in the pond.
