The valley which takes its name from the river crossing it, in an important natural reserve rich of art and culture, characterized by rolling hills adorned with rustic farmhouses and was the setting for numerous Italian and foreign films. The pleasant scenic views make this wide valley a splendid natural scenery embellished over the centuries by man, which has enriched the beautiful hills and planted with rows of cypress trees, with several villages of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, with beautiful castles and fortresses with inaccessible towers, and several farms. It is this harmonious union between natural and human intervention that has enabled UNESCO in July 2004 to declare the Val d'Orcia UNESCO heritage site.
