Our Goal... ... is to offer clean, well kept accommodation, great service, in a central location, at an affordable price. We cater to those travellers who like the informal and friendly atmosphere of a hostel, but demand for higher standards of comfort and privacy than can usually be found in hostels in Latin America. For this reason we only offer private rooms, and have furbished the bathrooms and common areas to a high standard. The Property... ... is a piece of Montevideo's history, full of colonial charm and period features. It was built in 1890 by the Country's premier furniture producer, Caviglia Brothers, with grand spaces and decoration: a setting to exhibit their exquisite furniture. 120 years later, it has been fully refurbished to comply with modern standards for accommodation, but still retaining its original features and atmosphere. Why "Chic"? Well, this is not just any hostel - it's chic. But it's also a reference to the building's past: CHIC was the acronym that the Caviglia Brothers put on their furniture (Caviglia Hermanos Importadores y Carpinteros)!
