Póvoa Dão is one of the oldest villages on register in the community of Silgueiros in the district council of Viseu, with its existence referred to for as far back of Alfonsine inquests prior to 1258. In 1995 Póvoa Dão Inc. purchased this Beira provincial village, seemingly condemned to abandonment, with the idea of returning to it old habits and customs, bringing it alive as a place to visit and live in. Today, after a rigorous recuperation process, the ruins have been replaced by a true refuge that offers a different way of life far from the bustle of cities and closer to authentic Portugal. Póvoa Dão is pioneer in village tourism, offering peaceful enjoyment of Portugal at its profoundest. It is a place for refreshing body and spirit in the most natural way in the world. The houses are available for rent to visitors, affording comfort and relaxation, opening a window to ancient memories.
