Hotel Bryghia is a part of the "Oosterlingenhuis" (Eastermenhouse) that was built between 1478 and 1481 (arch. Jan Vanden Poele) by the merchants of the 'German Hanse' who came to Bruges to trade. On September 6th in 1486 the emperor Frederik III gave them a coat of arms with the image of a two-headed eagle which you can still admire today above the main entrance of the hotel. In 1500 the salesmen left the city for reasons of declining trade customs, the silting up of the Zwin, the battle of Bruges with Maximillian of Austria... In 1965 the Eastermenshouse was restored and transformed into the hotel: BRYGHIA. The intimate family-run hotel has 18 bedrooms with full comfort: a private bathroom with bath and toilet, hairdryer, colour-television, direct dial telephone, radio, safety-box, mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities. The public parking in front of the hotel is free of charges. A garage-box is available at 7.50 EUR/night (on request).
